Getting the right measurements for your new steel door is essential for a perfect fit.

Measuring Your Door Opening: A Simple Guide

Luxe Iron Doors are measured by the overall frame size—from the outside of the jamb/frame to the outside of the jamb/frame, so the frame is included in the listed door dimensions.

For installation, your rough opening (RO) should be slightly larger than the ordered door size to allow space for leveling, shimming, and proper positioning. As a general guideline, we recommend making the rough opening about 1/2” to 1” wider and 1/2” to 1” taller than the door’s ordered frame size.

 Here's how to do it:

1. Measure the Width:

  • Use a tape measure (or a laser measure for larger openings).
  • Measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom of the opening.
  • Important: If you get different measurements, use the smallest width.

2. Measure the Height:

  • Measure the height in three places: left, middle, and right sides of the opening.
  • Again, if your measurements differ, use the smallest height.

3. Measuring for Special Features:

  • Measure those sections separately if your door has extra features like sidelights or transom windows.

4. Consider Flooring Height:

  • If you plan to install new flooring, account for its height in your measurements. This ensures the door will clear the floor when open.
